FIBERCOP: WORK BEGINS ON THE NEW FIBRE NETWORK IN MATINO
- 24 September 2025 - Market
Matino (Lecce), 24 September2025 –FiberCop, the company that manages Italy’s most extensive and far-reaching digital infrastructure, has launched works to strengthen the fibre optic internet network across Matino, in Apulia, in close coordination with the Municipal Authority.
The project, fully financed by FiberCop, will bring fibre directly to the homes. The digital infrastructure enables speeds of up to 2.5 Gigabits per second and, in the coming months, up to 10 Gigabits per second.
Thanks to FiberCop’s fibre, the municipality of Matino will have an infrastructure that will accelerate the digitalisation of citizens, businesses and public administration, enabling innovative services such as 4K streaming, remote work, telemedicine and digital services including traffic management, street lighting and environmental monitoring. In addition, fibre will help the environment by reducing CO2 emissions.
Residents can check service availability with their chosen operator and request activation to benefit immediately from the new network.
“The Municipal Authority of Matino welcomes the start of works on an ultra-fast fibre network across the municipal area. Thanks to our collaboration with FiberCop, Matino will take an important step forward in digitalisation and technological innovation - key factors for attracting new opportunities and improving quality of life for our citizens,” said Giorgio Salvatore Toma, Mayor of Matino. “Access to ultra-fast connections will not only support local businesses but also public services and households, placing Matino at the forefront of the digital transformation.” “FiberCop continues to invest in the country’s digital transformation, promoting the adoption of fibre and facilitating access to advanced services across the territory,” said Massimo Zaffiro, FiberCop’s Head of Operations, Southern Area. “The availability of an infrastructure able to handle ever-growing traffic volumes over stable, high-speed connections will support businesses in developing their activities and improve quality of life for citizens, contributing to the growth of the local economy.”
Works have already begun in Via Galvani, Via Rossini and Via De Gasperi, and will continue in Via Bovio and Via Fratelli Carlo, progressing to cover most of the municipality during 2026. Wherever possible, existing infrastructure will be used for fibre installation to minimise the impact on traffic and to proceed swiftly with delivery of the new network.
