The new infrastructure will enable innovative services, contributing to the area’s digitalisation

Bergamo, 10 June 2025 - Bergamo Alta embraces digital innovation. In the coming days, works will begin to build the new fibre network, thanks to an initiative promoted and fully financed by FiberCop, the digital infrastructure operator, in close coordination with the Bergamo Municipal Authority.

Planned works

The works will concern the street cabinets housing network equipment installed in Via Borgo Canale, Via Colleoni and Via Solata. Wherever possible, existing infrastructure, including the public-lighting network, will be used for fibre installation in Città Alta. Where excavations are required, innovative, low-impact techniques will be adopted.

FiberCop will work in constant coordination with the Municipal Authority, in full compliance with the heritage and archaeological regulations for Città Alta, with the aim of minimising the impact on traffic and completing the works as quickly as possible.

By deploying fibre to the cabinets, we are significantly improving connectivity capacity in a strategic and symbolic area of our city. This is a place where innovation must engage in a dialogue with history, while fully respecting the urban and cultural context. These works, which have been made possible thanks to FiberCop’s investment, mark the start of a journey: the goal is to continue strengthening the digital infrastructure to offer increasingly high-performance connections to residents, businesses, students and workers” , said Giacomo Angeloni, Councillor for Innovation of the Municipality of Bergamo.

The initiative marks a significant step in the area’s digitalisation and will deliver tangible connectivity benefits, supporting economic development and innovation for citizens, businesses and institutions.

The fibre infrastructure will enable a wide range of innovative services: from remote work to 4K streaming, from telemedicine to smart city applications such as intelligent traffic management, public lighting and environmental monitoring.

In addition to the technological benefits, fibre will also contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing CO₂ emissions through a more efficient use of resources and reduced mobility.
