FIBERCOP: WORK BEGINS ON THE NEW FIBRE NETWORK IN COSSATO

Cossato (Biella), 17 November 2025 – FiberCop, the company managing Italy’s most extensive and far-reaching digital infrastructure, has started works to strengthen the fibre optic internet network to homes (FTTH) in the area of Cossato (in the province of Biella), in close coordination with the Municipal Authority. The activities to deliver the new ultra-broadband network, under the Italy 1 Giga Plan within the PNRR, alongside FiberCop’s standalone initiatives, will cover several areas of the municipality, with the aim of progressively making ultra-fast connections available.

The digital infrastructure put in place by FiberCop in Cossato can reach speeds of up to 10 Gigabits per second and will accelerate the digitalisation of households, businesses and public administration, enabling innovative services such as 4K streaming, remote work, telemedicine and digital services including traffic management, street lighting and environmental monitoring. In addition, fibre will help the environment by reducing CO2 emissions.

The project offers an extraordinary opportunity not only for our businesses to become more competitive, but above all for citizens, who will be able to benefit from faster connections”, said Enrico Moggio, Mayor of Cossato. “The Municipal Authority will work closely with FiberCop to minimise any disruption to traffic during the works.”

“FiberCop continues to invest in the country’s digital transformation, promoting the adoption of fibre and facilitating access to advanced services across its territory ”, said Rosario Cristaudo, FiberCop’s Head of Operations for Northwestern Italy. “The availability of infrastructure that can handle ever-growing traffic volumes over stable, high-speed connections will support businesses in developing their activities and improve quality of life for citizens, contributing to the growth of the local economy.

Planned works

The works are starting now and will cover most of the municipality during 2026.

FiberCop has obtained the necessary authorisation from Cossato’s One-Stop Shop for Business Activities (SUAP) to install the infrastructure, having submitted a detailed works plan to be delivered in multiple phases and progressively covering the following areas of the town:

  • Guelpa bridge area, Ronco Alta district, via Montegrappa, via Imer Zona, via Maffei
  • via Remondato, via Castelletto Cervo interna, Canton Botto and the Coinarco area
  • via Paruzza, via Castelletto Cervo
  • via Dante, via Corridoni, Alino district, via XXV Aprile, Borgata Mora junction
  • via Parlamento, via Trieste, via Marconi and the Borgo di Parlamento, via Barazze, via Polle, via Aosta
  • Cascine Minot, via Amendola, Pratobello area

Wherever possible, existing infrastructure will be used to deliver the network. Where new excavation is required, it will be carried out using innovative, low-impact techniques, with narrow trenching approximately 10–15 centimetres wide. FiberCop will work to minimise the impact on traffic and proceed swiftly with delivery of the new network.

Residents can check service availability with their chosen telecoms operator and request activation to benefit immediately from the performance of the new network.
