Milano Cortina 2026: FiberCop supports the Games with highly reliable fibre infrastructure

News Fibercop - Milano Cortina 2026: FiberCop supports the Games with highly reliable fibre infrastructure

Behind every image, every live broadcast and data travelling in real time during the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games lies an invisible but essential infrastructure: the fibre-optic network. FiberCop plays a strategic role in this infrastructure as the event’s Fiber Infrastructure Partner.

As part of the project entrusted to TIM, the Official Telecommunications Partner of Milano Cortina 2026 for wide area connectivity and telecommunications services, FiberCop implements the fibre network infrastructure and provides the technical support essential for its management.

FiberCop builds and manages the fibre network connecting all Olympic venues to the national backbone, offers dedicated housing for TIM network nodes in its Milan and Verona exchanges and prepares the internal infrastructure connecting the external network to the venues' technical facilities. The designed infrastructure is distinguished by ultra-high capacity and resilience, integrating advanced transmission technologies and leveraging an optical network further enhanced with dedicated extensions to all Olympic locations. Redundant optical paths ensure service continuity even in the event of failures, guaranteeing reliable connections and video backbones for international television distribution.

A project of this complexity begins long before the lighting of the Olympic cauldron. During the years of preparation, network engineers, designers and field technicians have worked side by side to build a robust and reliable system. For the Games, a technical support model has been established involving over 300 technicians and specialists, with approximately 100 professionals operating simultaneously during peak periods.

To chronicle this journey, FiberCop is launching a video series dedicated to its contribution to the Games. In the first episode, Raffaele Girardi, Head of the FiberCop Milano Cortina 2026 Task Force, explains the work the company has carried out and the value of an infrastructure designed to support international video streams, telecommunications and digital services at the Olympic venues.
