News Fibercop - The FiberCop network in numbers: the 2025 NetBook is now online

The 2025 FiberCop NetBook is now available online. The document offers a comprehensive overview of how Italy’s network infrastructure is evolving, with data and analysis broken down at national, regional and provincial level. The new edition, with figures as at 30 June 2025, is a key reference tool for understanding how FiberCop – the company managing Italy’s most extensive and far-reaching digital infrastructure – is helping to drive the country’s digital development thanks to an increasingly modern and reliable network.

FiberCop’s network infrastructure comprises around 27 million kilometres of fibre laid across the country – more than 670 times the Earth’s circumference – and includes approximately 10,500 exchanges and 160,000 street cabinets

Broadband, ultrabroadband and FTTH coverage.

As at June 2025, there were more than 14 million active lines using FiberCop’s network, including 13 million broadband lines and 11.5 million ultrabroadband lines, offering ultra-fast connectivity at up to 1 Gbps. At regional level, Lombardy led with 2.6 million active lines, followed by Lazio (1.6 million) and Campania (1.3 million).

As at 30 June 2025, FiberCop’s FTTx (FTTH or FTTC) network reached 6,100 municipalities, covering around 28.4 million buildings– almost 91% of the national total. More than 2,800 municipalities were reached with FTTH, for a total of over 13.2 million buildings, accounting for more than 42% of the total. The provinces with the highest FTTH coverage were Trieste (74%), Pescara (71%) and Rome (67%).

“The NetBook provides a clear picture that FiberCop and Italy can proudly present as a showcase of the country’s digital growth”, explains Alma Fazzolari, Director of Strategic Governance at FiberCop. “It brings together a set of indicators clearly showing that our network is the most extensive and widespread in the country. The reliability and scale of FiberCop’s network confirm the strength of our model and the value our infrastructure delivers to the entire national ecosystem, making a concrete and significant contribution to achieving Europe’s connectivity targets.”

Data traffic

In the first six months of 2025, total data traffic on FiberCop’s fixed network amounted to 19.4 billion gigabytes. Looking at the ranking of average monthly data traffic by province, 8 of the top 10 provinces are in central and southern Italy (Palermo is in first place with over 340 GB per month). The regions with the highest average data consumption per active line are Campania, Lazio and Sicily, all exceeding 300 GB per month. At the other end of the scale are Liguria and Valle d’Aosta, which both recorded average consumption in excess of 200 GB per month.
