FIBERCOP: WORK BEGINS ON THE NEW FIBRE NETWORK IN BASILIANO
- 11 August 2025 - Market
Basiliano (Udine), 11 August 2025 – FiberCop, the company managing Italy’s most extensive and far-reaching digital infrastructure, has completed works to strengthen the fibre optic internet network in the area of Basiliano, in close coordination with the Municipal Authority.
The project, fully financed by FiberCop, involves the construction of a new FTTH (Fibre to the Home) ultra-broadband network that will bring fibre directly into homes. The digital infrastructure enables speeds of up to 2.5 Gigabits per second and, in the coming months, up to 10 Gigabits per second.
Thanks to FiberCop’s fibre, the municipality of Basiliano will have an infrastructure that will accelerate the digitalisation of households, businesses and public administration, enabling innovative services such as 4K streaming, remote work, telemedicine and digital services including traffic management, street lighting and environmental monitoring. In addition, fibre will help the environment by reducing CO2 emissions.
Marco Olivo, Mayor of Basiliano, welcomes this initiative “which will enable the citizens of our municipality to access digital services and content more efficiently and economically, reducing the digital divide with areas already served by this infrastructure. In an increasingly digital world, it will also be an opportunity for local businesses to increase productivity, security and business growth. This is a significant synergy between the public and the private sector that will contribute to the future economic, social and cultural development of our communities”.
“FiberCop continues to invest in the country’s digital transformation, promoting the adoption of fibre and facilitating access to advanced services across its territory”, said Gianni Crocetti, FiberCop’s Head of Operations for Northeastern Italy. “The availability of infrastructure that can handle ever-growing traffic volumes over stable, high-speed connections will support businesses in developing their activities and improve quality of life for citizens, contributing to the growth of the local economy.”
Planned works
The works, already under way in the industrial area in Via Arturo Malignani, Via Gian Giacomo Marinoni and Via Corecian, will continue and cover most of the municipality during 2026.
Wherever possible, existing infrastructure will be used for fibre installation. Where excavations are required, innovative, low-impact techniques will be adopted. FiberCop will work with the Municipal Authority to minimise the impact on traffic and proceed swiftly with delivery of the new network.
Residents can check service availability with their chosen telecoms operator and request activation to benefit from the performance of the new network.
