FIBERCOP: WORK COMPLETED FOR THE NEW FIBER OPTIC NETWORK IN BERGAMO ALTA
- 19 December 2025 - Market
Bergamo, 18 December 2025 – FiberCop, the company that manages the digital infrastructure, in synergy with the Municipality of Bergamo, has completed work on the new fiber optic network in the Upper Town (Bergamo Alta).
Starting from December 23, ultrabroadband services will be available for commercialization for all lines connected to the new infrastructure. Citizens and businesses will be able to benefit from higher-performance connections by requesting activation from their chosen operators.
Work Carried Out
The interventions, promoted and fully financed by FiberCop, involved the cabinets—the roadside boxes that house network equipment—installed in Borgo Canale, Colleoni, and Solata streets. Where possible, existing infrastructure was used for laying the fiber optic cable in the Upper Town, including the public lighting network, and excavation work was minimized thanks to the use of innovative, low environmental impact techniques.
FiberCop operated in constant coordination with the Municipal Administration, fully respecting the landscape and archaeological constraints of the Upper Town.
"In his inaugural address to Parliament on February 3, 2015, President Mattarella stated that the internet will be the right of the future. We are aware that connectivity has become an indispensable part of citizens' daily lives, and we believe that young people in Bergamo have the same digital opportunities as their peers in Copenhagen. Città Alta had a significant connectivity gap, even compared to the rest of the city. This initiative by FiberCop, whom we thank for their investment, responds to a concrete and widespread request from residents. The municipality has worked actively to facilitate this project, obtaining all the necessary authorizations from the Superintendency, in a complex urban context of great historical value," said Giacomo Angeloni, Councillor for Innovation of the Municipality of Bergamo.
“The initiative, carried out in one of the country’s most historically significant locations, represents an important step in the digitalization of the area, and we are convinced it will bring significant benefits for economic development and innovation serving citizens, businesses, and institutions,” says the Head of Operations for the North West Area of FiberCop, Rosario Cristaudo.
Enabled Services
The fibre infrastructure will enable a wide range of innovative services: from remote work to 4K streaming, from telemedicine to smart city applications such as intelligent traffic management, public lighting and environmental monitoring.
In addition to the technological benefits, fibre will also contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing CO2 emissions through a more efficient use of resources and reduced mobility.
