FIBERCOP: WORK CONTINUES ON THE NEW FIBRE NETWORK IN CASTEL SAN GIOVANNI

Castel San Giovanni (Piacenza), 24th September 2025 – FiberCop, the company that manages Italy’s most extensive and far-reaching digital infrastructure, is continuing, in close coordination with the Municipal Authority, to strengthen the fibre optic internet network across Castel San Giovanni, in the province of Piacenza. Activities to build the new ultra-broadband network have already reached several areas of the municipality, with the aim of progressively making ultra-fast connections available.

The project, fully financed by FiberCop, will bring fibre directly into homes.

The digital infrastructure enables speeds of up to 2.5 Gigabits per second and, in the coming months, up to 10 Gigabits per second, supporting the digitalisation of households, businesses and public administration and enabling innovative services such as 4K streaming, remote work, telemedicine and digital services including traffic management, street lighting and environmental monitoring. In addition, fibre will help the environment by reducing CO2 emissions.

Residents can check service availability with their chosen telecoms operator and request activation to benefit immediately from the new network.

Massimo Bollati, Councillor for Public Works in Castel San Giovanni, said: “The Municipal Authority supports the project to extend fibre rollout and coverage because new technologies will drive the social and economic development of the entire municipal area. We are, of course, aware of the disruption caused by the works and the many sites across our area, and we would like to thank residents for their patience. We are confident that once the service is fully operational the benefits will be substantial and well worth it.

FiberCop continues to invest in the country’s digital transformation, promoting the adoption of fibre and facilitating access to advanced services across the territory,” said Gianni Crocetti, FiberCop’s Head of Operations, North-East Area. “The availability of an infrastructure able to handle ever-growing traffic volumes over stable, high-speed connections will support businesses in developing their activities and improve quality of life for citizens, contributing to the growth of the local economy.

Planned works

At this stage, works are planned mainly in the areas of Via Dei Navigatori, Via Malvicino, Via Don Aristide Conti and Via Dei Pellegrini, and “will continue with the aim of covering most of the municipality during 2026.”

Wherever possible, existing infrastructure will be used for fibre installation, including public lighting ducts. Where excavations are required, innovative, low-impact techniques will be adopted. FiberCop will work with the Municipal Authority to minimise the impact on traffic and to proceed swiftly with delivery of the new network.
