FIBERCOP: WORKS ON THE ITALIA 1 GIGA PLAN COMPLETED IN FONTANETTO PO
- 17 November 2025 - Market
Fontanetto Po (Vercelli), November 17, 2025 – FiberCop, the company managing Italy’s most extensive and far-reaching digital infrastructure, has completed the upgrade of the fiber optic internet network to homes (FTTH) in Fontanetto Po as part of the PNRR’s Italia 1 Giga Plan. The activities to deliver the new ultra-broadband network, which complement FiberCop’s standalone initiatives, involved several areas of the municipality with the goal of making ultra-fast connections available.
The digital infrastructure set up by FiberCop for 624 addresses in Fontanetto Po can reach speeds of up to 10 Gigabits per second and will accelerate the digitalisation of households, businesses and public administration, enabling innovative services such as 4K streaming, remote work, telemedicine and digital services including traffic management, street lighting and environmental monitoring. In addition, fibre will help the environment by reducing CO2 emissions.
The completed project was presented to the citizens during a meeting held yesterday at the Auditorium, attended by Mayor Riccardo Vallino, who emphasized: “This is a fundamental project for the development of our town. Bridging the technological gap we had with neighboring towns opens up significant growth opportunities, considering modern work possibilities. Now all citizens will be able to use high-speed broadband for whatever they wish, from leisure to work. I would like to thank the FiberCop management for the attention given to Fontanetto Po, for carrying out the fiber installation work, and especially for the careful and professional restoration of the road surface.”
“With the completion of the Italia 1 Giga Plan works, the Municipality of Fontanetto Po is among the first to concretely benefit from this important national initiative within the PNRR. This achievement was also made possible thanks to synergy with the municipal administration,” said Davide Polidori, Head of Field Operation Line for Piedmont at FiberCop. “FiberCop’s commitment continues in building an infrastructure capable of supporting ever-increasing traffic volumes, ensuring stable and high-speed connections. We aim to build a more inclusive and competitive digital future, offering citizens and businesses access to innovative services and new opportunities for local economic development.”
Work carried out
Wherever possible, existing infrastructure was used to deliver the network. Where new excavation was required, it was carried out using innovative, low-impact techniques, with narrow trenching approximately 10–15 centimetres wide. FiberCop worked in collaboration with the municipal administration to minimise the impact on traffic and proceed swiftly with delivery of the new network.
Residents can check service availability with their chosen telecoms operator and request activation to benefit immediately from the performance of the new network.
