FiberCop’s fleet of 14 specialised vehicles supporting the network

News Fibercop - FiberCop’s fleet of 14 specialised vehicles supporting the network

The ability to respond swiftly is essential for ensuring connectivity in exceptional circumstances or when specific requirements arise.  For this reason, FiberCop has a fleet of 14 specialised, highly mobile vehicles stationed at strategic locations across the country. These vehicles are designed to support telecommunications services in a flexible and reliable way.

These are genuine mobile technology hubs that can be deployed at the request of operators in a variety of contexts. They can be used to temporarily boost network capacity at major events requiring enhanced connectivity, or in situations where the standard infrastructure is temporarily unavailable or requires additional support.

Built on a 4x4 chassis, these vehicles can reach urban centres and the most difficult-to-serve areas. They can also function in challenging conditions.  Operation without mains power is ensured by an onboard generator, a power unit and batteries.

At the technological heart of each vehicle lies the shelter: a fully equipped module providing a safe working environment for technical staff, as well as housing fixed and mobile network equipment, power supplies, air-conditioning systems and fibre-optic and radio link connections. Inside, there is a workstation for configuring and activating the onboard equipment.

All units are connected to the fibre-optic network.  Ten units are fitted with two telescopic masts for radio link connections and a separate mast for BTS antennas, while four units have a single telescopic mast over 15 metres high that combines both functions.

The fleet has been designed to adapt to different operational scenarios.  In some cases, the shelter can be detached from the driving unit and positioned on the ground using specialised lifting systems, allowing it to be deployed on uneven surfaces.  In other cases, it remains integrated with the vehicle and can be used safely once stabilised.

Every operation requires suitably trained and specialised personnel.  The handling and installation of each vehicle requires at least three operatives, one of whom must hold a Category C driving licence or higher. The field team is supported by technicians, both on site and working remotely, who are responsible for setting up and activating connections, configuring network equipment, and monitoring services.

This equipment enables FiberCop to contribute to the continuity and resilience of telecommunications throughout Italy.
